Areas of interest: Ancient Greek art and archaeology, especially Archaic and Classical painted pottery; iconology of myth; human-animal relationships in the ancient world; museum studies and curation.


Doug Braun received his BA from Binghamton University in History, Anthropology, and Classical Civilizations. While there, he curated two exhibitions for the Binghamton University Art Museum on Neoclassicism in Western Art and Materiality in Ancient Egyptian Art respectively. During his undergraduate career, he also held a position at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He received his MA in archaeology from Cornell University with a thesis on Herakles and the Mares of Diomedes in Greek art. He continues to focus on animals and myth in Greek art, as well as depictions of the “Other” in the ancient world.
