Fall 2025
Chinese Medieval Art and the Modern Rule of Law (Hsueh-man Shen) examines how contemporary legal frameworks interact with medieval Chinese art through case studies including the Belitung shipwreck controversy and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The Medieval Copy: Models, Agency, and Artifice (Robert Maxwell) investigates medieval concepts of copying that transcend modern notions of replication and authenticity.
Spring 2026
Contemporary Art and U.S. Law (Joan Kee and Amy Adler) combines IFA and law students to explore how artworks engage with legal frameworks, addressing current issues like AI, freedom of expression, and artists' professional status.
Investigating Forgery: Technical Analysis and Cultural Meaning (Matt Hayes) combines hands-on scientific analysis with theoretical exploration of authenticity, using advanced techniques to examine potentially inauthentic objects.
