Authors at the IFA with Edward J. Sullivan

Please join us for our next Close Reading event, featuring Edward J. Sullivan in conversation with Akeem Flavors and Laura Suárez Rodríguez, about his new book Latino New York: Art and Experience, 1970-2001.

Edward J. Sullivan is the Helen Gould Shepard Professor in the History of Art at the Institute of Fine Arts and the Department of Art History of NYU. His multiple fields of interest, research, writing and curating include the Spanish and Portuguese speaking Americas, the Iberian Peninsula and Iberian colonies in Asia and Africa. He is the author of some thirty books and catalogues, as well as numerous essays in journals published in four continents.

Laura Suárez Rodríguez is a PhD Student in the art history program at the CUNY Graduate Center, and a 2025-2026 Crossing Latinidades Mellon Fellow. Her writing and research centers topics and issues that intersect Latinx and Latin American Art History, Diaspora Studies and decolonial aesthetics.

Akeem Flavors is an archivist and art historian interested in Black visual culture and the history of photography. He holds a BA and MA in Art History and is currently a PhD student in the Department of Art History & Archaeology at Columbia University.
