Modern and Contemporary Art Conservation
Students interested in a career in the conservation of modern and contemporary art, digital art, and new media, will find that studying at the Conservation Center in New York City offers unrivalled opportunities. Advanced conservation courses cover special topics in conserving the art of our time, including ethics, law, artist interviews, modern art technologies, replication issues, and models for collaboration, as well as treatment. Specialized seminars taught by international and area experts have included Examination & Conservation of Modern & Contemporary Paintings I & II, Modern Materials & Media in Contemporary Art, The Science of Plastics, The Conservation of Public Art, and The Conservation of Installation Art. Theoretical courses in contemporary art history complement the Conservation Center’s curriculum and are available to interested students as art history electives. Students regularly find internship opportunities at area private practices.
