IFA Technology Services

Our primary job is service: helping students, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars use the technology they need to teach, learn, research, present, and work at the IFA. We support the Institute’s classrooms and shared technology, troubleshoot everyday computer and connectivity problems, assist with presentations and events, and help our community navigate the much larger range of technology services available across NYU.

Because we are based at the IFA, our team is a little different from other IT service teams. We know our buildings, classrooms, equipment, and academic environment, and we understand that the technology needs of an art historian or conservator can be unusually specific. Some of the tools and systems you use are managed directly by our team, while others are provided by NYU IT or other University offices. Either way, we take responsibility for helping you have a successful experience using them. If we can solve something locally, we will. If another team needs to pull the levers, we will help identify the right resource and, when appropriate, work with our colleagues across NYU to move the issue forward. You should not need to know the University’s technology org chart to know where to start.

IFA Technology Services grew out of the Institute’s former Digital Media/Computer Services department, whose work centered heavily on imaging, scanning, digital collections, and technology-based scholarship. Those services remain an important part of our history and expertise, but our mission has expanded. Today, our focus is the broader technology experience of the IFA community, from the ordinary problems that interrupt a day of work to the specialized technical needs that support teaching, research, conservation, and public programs.
